Elders play an essential role in the governing of The Presbyterian Church in Canada. An elder is a Christian man or woman elected by a congregation and ordained to rule in the Church. Elders, along with the minister of Word and Sacrament, form the session. The session oversees all aspects of the church.

1 Timothy 4:12 says that elders are to be an example “in speech, conduct, love, faith, and purity.” An Elder Has a Personal Concern for People, is a Committed Christian, is a Person of Sound judgment, and leads an upright Life.

TRINITY ELDERS: (The Caring Ministry)

Bill Barry (Clerk of Session, Presbytery Rep elder, Chair of Pastoral care ministry, Small group leader) / cbarry3@cogeco.ca
Bill has been a member of Trinity Church since 1998 and has served Trinity as a clerk of session since 2019.  He married for 50 years to his high school sweetheart Cathy. They have two amazing daughters in Amherstview and North Carolina. Two teenage grandchildren, Austin and Jackson, along with fur babies, bring incredible joy to their lives. Bill is eager to be involved in the success of our ministry in the community and humbly brings whatever talent he can offer. His retirement from full-time work in 2016 has allowed him time to enjoy family, friends and reading.

Nancy Armitage / (Rep Elder of TPWA, Rep Elder of the Community Meal) nancyarmitage767@gmail.com
Keith & I have been members of Trinity since 1980, our children attended Sunday School & were confirmed here at Trinity also enjoyed the youth group for a couple of years. I retired three years ago from my business at Helen Henderson for 35 years, giving me more time to be a part of Trinity. God’s Blessing to all.

Bob Docherty (Rep Elder of Property & Finance C., Rep Elder of Online Ministry Team, Small group leader) / revrobertdocherty@gmail.com
I have served  in the Presbyterian church of Canada for thirty years as an ordained minister and very much enjoyed the call to ministry. I find the congregation at Trinity very enjoyable and sincere and look forward to helping and guiding Trinity if this is God’s will for my future ministry.
On a personal note I am married to Muriel, have three grown children and four grandchildren. My hobbies include astronomy, sketching, and model railroading. Muriel and I moved to Kingston four years ago and I am delighted to have found such a caring congregation as Trinity.

Sandra McKeigan (Rep Elder of Newcomers & fellowship Team, Trustee) / sr.mckeigan@gmail.com
Ralph and I have been married 56 years on May 25, 2025, this year. I worked for Scotia Bank for 15 years, volunteered at Lakeridge Health Hospital for 15 years, worked as Treasurer of Auxiliary for 1 year, and volunteered at Palliative Care at Lakeridge Health Hospital for 5 years. I took the Christopher Leadership Course in Public Speaking and Medical Terminology at Durham College.
I was diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer 30 years ago, but God spared my life, and I give praise and glory to our Heavenly Father for answering all the prayers that were prayed for me. The prayers of my family, friends, neighbours, and all my church congregation in Oshawa, Nova Scotia, British Columbia. Doctors and nurses. All my brothers and sisters.
Now I believe I was saved for another purpose. God has led me to Trinity Presbyterian Church to serve Him further. I pray I will do my best to serve as an elder and I am proud to be a servant of God and try to be an example for others growing in the Lord. May God Bless us all.
